Keys to Meditating

Meditation TIPS
This sheet is going to be your guide to meditation for all your classes. It will help you enter and leave a meditation at ease and with peace.

1. Before you start any kind of meditation, make sure you go somewhere undisturbed. This way, no one can bother you. Maybe by the lake, or in a forest, or in your room. This would also be a good time to set up the scenery. Opening windows, turning on light music, or playing soft sounds in the background depending on the meditation you are doing. TIP: If you use music, we recommend that it is instrumental music.

2. After you found your environment, make sure you are in a comfortable position. Laying down, sitting down in a chair or on the couch, maybe on the floor with your legs crossed. Whatever position makes you feel more comfortable and relaxed.

3. We recommend that you read through the meditation first so you will know what you are doing. If you need to, look up a text-to-speech site online and copy and paste the words from the meditation into the text-to-speech box. When you are ready, hit play and do exactly as instructed. If you need to, change the instructions a little bit to your liking.

4. While meditating, your mind may start to wander off. Especially if you are new to this. It is totally normal. Just gently stir yourself away from the thoughts, and put it away for later. Gently coax yourself back into your meditative thoughts instead. Although, if you start to see things differently than what the meditation tells you to imagine, don't fight it. It might be an important warning or message that you need to hear.

5. It might be hard for you to focus if you have many different things going on in your head, around your environment, and so on. If you find it hard to concentrate, try focusing on your breathing, a certain sound (like music, or the words if being read to you). This will help you focus in on one thing and the rest should be pretty simple. If you find that you just can't seem to concentrate, you can either take a few deep breathes and try to clear your mind, or you can walk away and try again later. It takes practice.

6. The last thing is, don't get frustrated with yourself. Again, it takes practice and getting used to. If you can't get it the first time, don't assume that you just can't do it. Don't be hard on yourself. Don't get frustrated. Just take a breath and try again at any time you are ready.
If you are doing this around nature, like in a forest, and you can't focus, take a walk around, and if you let it, nature will calm you down to a point where you can breathe in the nice fresh air and try again.
WARNING: If you have bad allergies, and are sensitive to nature really easily, we do not recommend you go outside to do your meditation practices. It is best to perform them inside a building if possible.

7. Another tip we recommend you do is keeping a meditating journal. This journal can be used for you to write down all your thoughts before and after your mediating sessions. This is totally optional but if you wanna keep track of your emotions and your feelings, then keeping a journal will help you on your path to success. It is also up to you whether you want to write down how you feel before performing the meditation. This would be necessary if you want to compare your feelings. Maybe before meditating, you could say you were cranky, upset, and was tired. And then afterward you could say that you feel refreshed and you feel like dancing and laughing. It could also help you decide which meditation have the most and best impact on your life.
