The HAUNTED Hollywood Sign Tue Sep 17, 2019 4:38 pm
Yes, it is true. The famous Hollywood sign is haunted. This sign was built in 1923 and it costed a total of $21,000. The reason for building it was for an advertisement of the real estate development in Beachwood Canyon. At first, this sign orginally said Hollywoodland and was supposed to be temporary. The sign was later rebuilt but the workers didn't replace the light bulbs or the build the "land" part of the sign. The sign was originally built with wood materail, but, as years went by, it was built with metal.
As for the reason of the haunting status, one ghost has been seen wondering around this sign. He name was Milli Lillian (Peg) Entwistle. She was an actress and began her acting career in New York. Before she started her career, her father was hit by a car and killed. Her two brothers left to live with their uncle while Peg stayed behind to begin her acting career. She stared in only one movie, "Thirteen Women" which also stared Irene Dunne. This movie came out with terrible reviews and it threw Peg into depression. Along with that, her contract didn't get renewed so she went into deeper depression.
On the night of September 11, 1932. She lied to her uncle by telling her that she, along with her friends, were heading out to a drug store. Instead, she climbing up to the Hollywood sign, hung her jacket and purse up on the H of the sign. There was a maintenance latter still near the sign, she climbed it and jumped off. Peg was only 24 years old when she committed suicide. A hiker found her coat and purse two days later and took them both to the police station and laid them in from of the door for them to find. Her purse has a suicide note in it that read:
"I am afraid. I am a coward, I am sorry for everything. If I had done this a long time ago, it would have saved a lot of pain."
Many hikers and witnesses have seen her ghost around the Hollywood sign while passing through, and many have seen her in the famous Griffith Park as well.
There is more history and some stories by ranchers and hikers who have seen Peg's ghost. Here is a link if you would like to get more into the reading.

That's a sad story. I guess failing was so much worse in the "public eye". What she wanted was to be a star and then the "critics" didn't like the movie. It's sad that she took the bad reviews personally. Maybe it was just a bad movie. Or maybe the director was the reason it failed. It's terrible that she became famous that way. Sad ending.
They should make a movie about her.

She could have kept trying. Just because one movie failed, doesn't mean that the other movies won't. And plus, they can't get mad at her for the movie failing. I always see it as the producer and script writer's fault how the movie or show turns out. The producer/director controls what the character does along with the script writer and the designers. The designers control the outfits of the characters, the script writer controls what the character says and does, the director and producer just controls the camera angles and gets the characters in position while yelling out stage directions. All the character has to do is remember their lines and put on a good performance. So, those two things can be blamed on the character. The plot and what happens in the show is done by people behind the scenes of the film, not the character itself.

It sounds like she was just too "soft-skinned" for Hollywood. Too sensitive. She might have go on to be more famous than she thought she would be. Or rather, as good an actress as she knew she was.
That is so much like the line in "Candle in the Wind".
(Chillingly fitting)
" Your candle burned out long before your legend ever did."
