January 2nd ~ Carnival Day in Saint Kitts and Nevis
On the day of January 2nd, Carnival Day is celebrated in Saint Kitts and Nevis, which is also named Sugar mas. The carnival that is associated with this holiday is known to be the best in the world. People will enjoy some exotic foods, parades, dancing, folklore, and more! It sounds like a whole lot of fun!
The History
This holiday began in 1957 with Mr. Basil Henderson along with some help from community members. And as some time went by, the carnival will grow with new and exciting events taking place, for example, music performances.
Interesting Facts About Saint Kitts And Nevis
- in 1982, Saint Kitts and Nevis received their independence from Great Britain.
- Saint Kitts and Nevis, their island, is known for their Goat Water. Goat Water is a stew that is prepared from the meat and neck bones of goats.
- This island is also the first British Colony in the Caribbean.
- The city capital is Basseterre and it means 'low land". It is also pronounced as "bass-tear".
