January 2nd ~ Reconquest Day in Grenada
On January 2nd in Grenada, they are celebrating Reconquest Day which is the end of the Spanish Reconquest of Spain. On this day, schools and government buildings, and offices are closed and t is only celebrated in parts of the country.They celebrate Reconquest Day by participating in Parades, ceremonies, sporting events, concerts, parties, speeches, and other public events.
The History
The Granada city, during the 11th century, was under the power of Sultan Almoravid, and over the next couple of centuries, the country was developing really well but unfortunately, that didn't last long once the 15th century came around. On January 2nd of 1492, Granada was surrendered to Spanish forces and the Muslims were forced to transition to Christians by 1502.Summary
