January 6th ~ Army Day in Iraq

Army Day in Iraq is a holiday celebrated on January 6th every year. It acknowledges the activation of the Army of Iraq in 1921.

After the Army's creation, between the year of 1936 and 1941, it was part of the country's development, helping it as much as possible. So, on this day, people celebrate this army and encourage others to join as well and be part of the amazing Iraq army. On this day, many schools, businesses, and government buildings are closed for the day.

The History

During the end of World War II, the British government was in charge of Iraq. Since they were having troubles financially, mainly because they have to use 40 million to contain an uprising in Iraq, they couldn't afford any more campaigns so that is when they created a military base in January of 1921.
