January 7th ~ Pioneers Day in Liberia
Every year on January 7th, Liberia celebrated Pioneers Day because of the relationship between the Americo-Liberians and Indigenous Liberians. They usually recognize this day with music and dance. Because this holiday isn't a public holiday, all businesses and schools will remain open on this day but many people will still celebrate.
The history
An organization, founded by Robert Finely in 1816, was used to encourage the movement of freeing the African-Americans as they migrated to Africa. Some believed that, with this formation on the uprise, some blacks may try to run away or rebel from their owners. Several of the blacks had been relocated to Liberia between January 7th, 1822, and 1865. Liberia would finally obtain its independence on July 26th, 1847, but it wasn't recognized until February 5th, 1862.Summary
